FLSA: Non-Exempt (Contract Role)


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Business Immigration Specialist supports Jackson Walker’s immigration attorneys in managing all aspects of employment-based immigration cases for corporate clients. This contract role plays a key part in preparing, filing, and tracking nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional client service.

The Specialist works collaboratively with attorneys and staff across offices to provide timely, high-quality support throughout the case lifecycle. This position requires strong attention to detail, organization, and knowledge of U.S. immigration procedures. The assignment is expected to last twelve (12) months, with the possibility of extension depending on workload and performance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Case Management & Application Processing

  • Prepare, file, and monitor DS-160 and DS-260 applications for nonimmigrant and immigrant visa processes.
  • File change of status and adjustment of status applications in accordance with immigration laws and firm procedures.
  • Assess eligibility criteria, identify potential issues, and communicate findings to supervising attorneys.
  • Conduct verification checks of documentation submitted by applicants and communicate with clients as needed.
  • Maintain accurate case records and data in the firm’s immigration and document management systems.

Client & Team Coordination

  • Collaborate with attorneys and team members to manage caseloads, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Prepare routine correspondence, case updates, and reports.
  • Provide responsive, professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Apply working knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations, filing requirements, and agency procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation and filings meet quality and compliance standards.
  • Assist with data reporting and special projects as requested by attorneys.

Contract Details

  • Pay rate: $35/hour.
  • Position is not eligible for overtime pay, benefits, or sick leave.
  • Expected duration is twelve (12) months, with possible extension based on workload and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience supporting business immigration processes in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Demonstrated experience with Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing, and general nonimmigrant and immigrant visa filings required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and document management systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Professional demeanor, initiative, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

WORK CONDITIONS:

This position operates in a typical professional office environment with standard equipment. The Specialist is required to work 40 hours per week, with in-office attendance and some remote days possible. The role requires professionalism, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
