Billing Department Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Accounting

Reports To: Director of Revenue and Treasury Management

Location: This role can sit in any of Jackson Walker’s office locations and candidate applications within those cities will also be considered.


Jackson Walker, the largest law firm in Texas, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Billing Department Manager. The Billing Department Manager will oversee all aspects of the Firm’s legal billing function. This role requires extensive collaboration with attorneys, staff, clients, and external vendors, ensuring the timely and accurate handling of invoicing and financial operations. Additionally, the Billing Department Manager will supervise billing staff ensuring all processes align with the Firm’s policies and legal industry standards.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the full life cycle of the client billing process.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff to generate a high volume of complex legal bills each month.
  • Supervise all billing staff members by providing clear guidance, regular training, and conducting thorough performance evaluations.
  • Set and communicate performance goals and expectations for the team, ensuring alignment with departmental and firmwide objectives.
  • Monitor individual and team performance closely, providing timely feedback, coaching, and support to drive continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Address performance issues proactively, developing action plans to improve underperformance, while recognizing and rewarding high achievers.
  • Ensure staff members are meeting deadlines, maintaining accuracy in billing processes, and upholding the highest standards of service to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with the Firm’s billing policies, industry regulations, and client billing requirements.
  • Identify areas for process improvements and work with leadership on enhancements to billing operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency with Aderant legal software, BillBlast, and various electronic billing platforms preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.

Experience:

  • 8 to 10 years of experience in legal billing processes required.
  • 3 to 5 years supervisory experience preferred, with a proven ability to manage and lead a billing team.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise and temperature.
